Too busy to do marketing

Running a business can be a busy and complex life, managing staff, ensuring customers are satisfied, fulfilling orders, keeping your operations running smoothly and doing the work, all pull you in different directions.

Yet marketing is one of the most important activities and often, after the business is initially set up, it is left to one side because everything else is so demanding.

Until something happens that makes you realise that your marketing has been neglected. It might be that it’s been a while since there was a new customer through your website, it might be that you notice that the customer’s experience is getting a bit tired, it might be that when you do a google search on your own company, it’s not on the first few hits, or it might be that sales haven’t really grown in a while.

A marketing manager could help you to focus on the big questions that set things up for your sales success, by working out how to pull in (as opposed to push for) new customers.

But for many small/medium businesses a full time marketing manager is unaffordable.

The nature of marketing is that a full time role isn’t likely required. Depending on the type of business, a full-time sales person might be, but not marketing.
